Framework for Developing a Technology Plan
Before embarking on this journey, it is important to reflect on the critical elements that contribute to the development of a robust school-based technology plan. Rather than viewing the development process as linear, and consisting of a well defined set of steps, it is helpful to consider how each aspect of the overall plan connects to student learning - which lies at the heart of all of our work in schools. To help you understand how all of these elements work together, please see the framework below:

Context Matters: Examining the Technology Landscape
As we begin, it is important to set the stage for collaboration and to share rich details about the technology available to the students and teachers in your school community. At your table, please take a few moments to collaborate with the colleagues from your school and to identify the following elements: strengths , challenges, and opportunities for the future in connection to the status of the school technology plan. Please use the provided chart paper and highlight salient points in each category. Please use the following questions to guide your work:
Strengths
Do you have a robust technology plan? What is working well in your school? What have you invested in across the school? Have you successfully infused technology into particular content areas? What technologies have you successfully adopted and integrated into the classroom? What are you and your community particularly proud of? Have you created flexible learning spaces for teachers and students? Have you invested in a library media specialist?
Challenges
What are you struggling with across the school? Integrating technology into the curriculum? Purchasing hardware and new tools? Investing in professional development for teachers? Encouraging teachers to create learning environments that are flexible and open to new technologies? Are you in the process of creating and establishing a formal plan for your students and teachers?
Opportunities
As you consider the presentation from this morning, what excites you? Who are your technology champions? What are your hopes for the future?
Afterwards, you will share this information with your peers. What elements are common across your school contexts? Are you struggling with the same technology issues? What excites you about your future work in this area? What did you learn from the session this morning and be incorporated into your school?
